On Bicycle Day next year, people will begin to gather from across the globe for Breaking Convention 2023, eager to share the results of psychedelic research and their many insights of recent years. Expect plenty of quality conversations, friendly faces, moments of awe and wonder, times for reflection, and a great afterparty!
Breaking Convention 2023 will be held at the University of Exeter, home of the first undergraduate module to be offered in psychedelics. The site offers everything we could possibly want for a top-notch conference venue. Modern lecture theatres, a purpose-built cinema room, superb spaces for art and performances, a devoted market stall area, lots of accommodation on-site, and some notable botanical species in the grounds of the old house. Tea and coffee and food will be available on site, and of course the beautiful medieval city centre of Exeter has plenty of shops and restaurants offering a wide range of options for evening meals with friends and colleagues. As well as the on-campus accommodation where you will be seeing the speakers and crew at breakfast (bookable via Breaking Convention when you purchase a ticket), the university liaison company Event Exeter will be able to advise and provide assistance with finding rooms for you nearby to suit all budgets.
There's even a substantial discount train ticket offer; details to follow!
The Breaking Convention team are excited to see how this fresh venue will allow new opportunities for us to interact with each other, and to explore the latest findings of psychedelic research, from both science and humanities. As well as talks, we will be hosting debates and panel discussions, film screenings, and introducing sessions for conferring with fellow delegates in a structured way, to initiate extraordinary combinations of perspectives and knowledge bases, to stimulate and develop relationships between disparate disciplines. We strongly believe that this is one of the most vital aspects of attending an in-person conference, and we want to facilitate this process; in addition to the random informal emergent formation of conversations throughout the event!
Following on from this philosophy, our livestream tickets will feature access to spaces for successfully interacting with fellow online delegates. We hope to find a strategy that will promote something of the atmosphere of the physical meet up, if you know of a great solution you’ve experienced please let us know, as this is a new field of development and novel ideas are constantly appearing.
Ticket sales and the call for papers will be announced very shortly, please wait till you see this before writing to us to offer your splendid suggestions for topics and speakers!
Warmest wishes,
