Hello Breakero,
We’ve been absolutely overwhelmed with applications to participate in BC23. Literally hundreds of you sent in wonderous ideas and incredible biographies. Having to choose between them has been the hardest of tasks. If we accepted all the people we wanted to, we would need to have at least six lecture theatres running for the whole three days! In our selection, we have tried to strike a mix of familiar faces and new voices.
This year we have four lecture theatres running for three days, with a great range of speakers; from postgraduate researchers to global celebrities. You can hear the latest results of clinical research, learn from historians of many times and places, and gain a better understanding of contemporary socio-cultural matters from a wide variety of psychonauts! Activists and chemists, political and legal experts, will all bring parts to contribute to the sum of our collective knowledge.
We are especially pleased to have a sizeable ponder of philosophers, and some very knowledgeable harm reduction/caregivers with us, to allow us to learn from their frontline expertise. Nurses, doctors, festival psychedelic care services, and practising therapists sharing a wealth of knowledge.
NOTE: our concession price tickets are available to all Blue Light personnel, so all those working in the NHS, emergency services, armed forces, social care and more. For a comprehensive list of those who qualify please see https://www.bluelightcard.co.uk/
Due to an unexpected surge in demand, I am afraid that the on-campus accommodation has now fully sold out. However, several nearby hotels still have availability at comparable prices, and many other options can be found by searching online, which will tell you more than we can about the various possibilities.
More information on local travel can be found here: https://buytickets.at/breakingconvention
Tickets to the conference are still available!
The plans for the evening entertainments include book launches, interactive partipatory events, and top quality Djs.
Sessions featuring invited speakers include Psychedelic Dance Culture, Ethics, Psychedelic Hype, DMT, Beyond the Clinic, Mind & Metaphysics, Varieties of Psychedelic Therapy, Equitable Paths Forward, and Psychedelic Healing: A Pan-African Perspective. We will be publishing the full schedule and a long list of speakers in the very near future!
With warm wishes,
Nikki
on behalf of the Breaking Convention team

Bicycle Day, 19th April
This year sees the 80th anniversary of Bicycle Day! Our thanks to Professor Tom Roberts, who initiated this important celebration.
BC is hosting a pre-conference evening at the University of Exeter, featuring a few short talks and the book launch of Bicycle Day, the collected essays of psychedelic literary historian Alan Piper, including his recent previously unpublished essay which looks at this iconic event in the context of mysticism in mid-20th century Europe. Please come and join us! Entrance to this evening event is free.
